Family Education Center: About Us

Dave and Sherry practice what they teach about marriage and family. They approach the business of family education with the same techniques and skills that they apply to their own marriage and family. They were married in 1975, the same year they established FEC, and have continued as Co-Directors of both since that time.  

David Hulburt, LCSW

David Hulburt, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, has worked as a psychotherapist, teacher, counselor, administrator and program developer in private practice, academic, and community health settings.

Dave is Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV - part of Virginia Commonwealth University).  At MCV, he teaches, consults, and supervises in the field of marriage and family education.

Sherry Finneran, M.S.Ed.

Sherry Finneran has been a teacher and consultant in public and private schools. She has presented her communication-based workshops, classes, and training seminars to hundreds of business organizations, schools, religious institutions and other groups. She also consults and trains with various agencies of the Commonwealth of Virginia in areas such as family and parenting, violence prevention, problem-solving, and conflict resolution in the workplace. A Certified Family Mediator, Sherry specializes in teaching conflict resolution skills.

Sherry is an Adjunct Faculty Member at the University of Virginia, where she teaches Team Development in the Management Information Services (MIS) program.

Dave and Sherry have three children, and live in Richmond, Virginia.
